With the 2024 vintage, the Gewürztraminer "Concerto Grosso" from the UGA "Tramin-Söll" by Elena Walch makes its debut:

The new Additional Geographical Units (UGA), introduced with the 2024 vintage, highlight the significance of the wine village of Tramin and the Gewürztraminer grape, marked by the launch of Elena Walch’s "Concerto Grosso" wine, bearing the designation “Tramin-Söll”.

Following the official approval of the Additional Geographical Units (UGA) in November 2024, the historic village of Tramin – the beating heart of South Tyrolean viticulture – receives significant recognition through the establishment of UGAs specifically for the Gewürztraminer grape: Tramin-Söll, Tramin-St. Jakob, Tramin-Plon, and Tramin-Rungg. These new zones strengthen the deep-rooted and identity-shaping connection between this iconic aromatic grape variety and its place of origin. Labels may now indicate the exact zone of origin next to the Alto Adige DOC designation, providing consumers with clearer insight into the wine’s provenance. The new UGAs offer a strategic opportunity to enhance the recognition and international visibility of wines from Tramin.

“Gewürztraminer is one of the oldest grape varieties in Europe, and its historical name is directly linked to Tramin – a connection even celebrated by figures like Goethe. The new UGAs in Tramin formally confirm and protect this cultural and viticultural heritage, fostering greater appreciation of the terroir and clearer qualitative distinction on an international level,” explains Julia Walch.
A driving force behind the successful introduction of these new zones has been the Elena Walch winery, which has worked tirelessly for years to help establish the Tramin-related UGAs. Through its continuous pursuit of quality and authentic expression of terroir, this family-run winery has played a key role in the official recognition of Tramin’s cultivation areas as individual additional geographical units associated with Gewürztraminer.

The “Concerto Grosso” Tramin-Söll 2024 is the winery’s first wine to bear the new designation. It originates at 430 meters above sea level, on clay soils over porphyry rock, with a south-east orientation. The pronounced temperature differences between sunny days and cool nights give the wine an intense aromatic profile, great complexity, and extraordinary aging potential.
The Gewürztraminer “Concerto Grosso” is unforgettable. Characterized by a bright, inviting golden hue, it captivates the nose with a fascinating interplay of aromas: fruity notes of candied orange and citrus blend with hints of honey, cinnamon, and cloves. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet delicate, finishing long and spicy. A true charmer.
